Whether this is your first massage or your first massage appointment with me, I want you to feel completely comfortable. I want this to be an enjoyable experience for you. The following are some frequently asked questions that you may have as well:
Q:What should I expect when I come in to get a massage with you?
A: Imagine a space set up just for you. The phone will not ring. You will be free of interruptions from your kids or spouse. The room is warm and filled with soy candles and calm music playing. The warmed massage crème used is vegan and parabin free with your wellness in mind. This time is just for you. You do not have to feel obligated to make conversation with me. Often this is the only time to be quiet and just be. When the massage is finished I may make suggestions to you about stretching or nutritional changes that can enhance your wellbeing. You may not want to schedule something right after the appointment so you can take it easy and not feel rushed.
Q: What amount of clothing should I take off when getting a massage?
A: Everyone has a different definition about what makes you comfortable. You can leave on whatever amount of clothing that feels right for you. That being said, the more clothing you take off, the more access I have to work on you. For example, if you have lower back pain your gluteus muscles may be tight. Removing your underwear makes it easier for me to access this area. For women, removing your bra makes it easier for me to access you back and shoulders. If you are not comfortable removing all of your clothing, that is no problem because I can always use a different type of massage therapy and work over your clothing. During most massages you will be covered with a sheet and blanket and only the area being worked on is exposed. If you are feeling self conscious, remember, I’ve been giving massages for over 12 years and have encountered all kinds of bodies from young to old and all shapes and sizes. When I’m giving massages I’m not judging anyone on their appearance and I want you to be as relaxed and comfortable as possible.
Q:I’m not sure about gratuities for massage services. What should I tip?
A: This is a very common question. When a massage therapist works in a spa or for someone else they get a percentage of the fee. In this case it is customary to tip (15-20%). These therapists often depend on their tips, much like restaurant servers do. I own my own business and charge what I think is fair for the quality of massage I give and the experience I have. I never expect a tip. Some of my clients do tip me and that is up to their discretion. The best tip I could ask for are referrals to your friends. What is most important to me is that you are making massage a regular part of your wellness plan.
Q: What if I’m not happy with the pressure of the massage?
A: When receiving a massage, communication is very important. Everyone’s body is different and has a different sensitivity level. If you want more or less pressure at any time during a massage, just say so. You may be ticklish in an area, this can always be worked around. Remember I want this experience to be a good one and I will not know if there is a problem if you do not communicate it to me.
